The PRTC Equestrian Club @ Perak Turf Club had its humble beginnings in 1994 in response to calls from several quarters to establish a ‘horse riding school’ and to promote equestrian sports. Since then, it is often fondly referred to as the Riding School, a clear testament to the public’s recognition of its endeavour and success in training people to ride horses. Today, the PRTC Equestrian Club is indisputably the leader in equestrian sports in its home state of Perak.
A wide range of riding lessons, from beginners’ classes to advanced riding for competition purposes, is conducted at the PRTC Equestrian Club under the watchful eyes of its riding instructors. In nurturing young riding talent, and in part to dispel the myth that equestrian sports is an elite sport, the PRTC Equestrian Club, in collaboration with the Education Ministry, has been actively promoting the Riding in School Programme for several years now. Many riding students have graduated through the ranks of the RISP to compete at national and international levels, while others have gone on to build successful careers in equestrian sports and business.
In reaching out to the community, the PRTC Equestrian Club has been steadfast in conducting free lessons under the Riding for the Disabled programme (commonly referred to as RDA) in support of rehabilitation and recreational efforts for disabled children. RDA programmes are conducted and supervised by a team of certified instructors who are specially trained in RDA. The PRTC Equestrian Club also plays host regularly to visiting groups from schools, religious organizations and welfare homes which request for brief tours or organize picnics at its premises. Members of the public are also welcome to avail themselves of the facilities at the PRTC Equestrian Club by signing up for riding lessons at a fee, or for their younger children, pony and carriage rides.
Apart from holding its own equestrian sports competitions and events, the PRTC Equestrian Club is often sought out as the premier competition venue to stage equestrian competitions in the various equestrian disciplines like show-jumping, dressage, eventing and combined riding. The PRTC Equestrian Club also gets the chance to host the National Horse Show, the premier equestrian event on the Malaysian equestrian sports calendar, once in every three years.
