BEST BETS AND EARLY SCRATCHINGS FOR PRTC RACING THIS WEEKEND

Sixteen races (7 Saturday, 9 Sunday) will be contested over the two days of racing at Perak Turf Club this weekend. It looks to be a challenging card for punters with the highest graded races being the 1600m Desert Flame Stakes (60pts+) on Saturday and the 1200m Bottlebrushes Stakes (60pts+) on the Sunday.

 ROYAL EXPLORER

Saturday’s contest features three gallopers who have been contesting some of the richer G1 races in recent months and should appreciate the drop back to Enrich Stakes A company. 2018 Penang Governors Gold Cup winner, DAVINCI has been freshened since finishing 7th behind the inform Mr Hopkins at KL a month ago when he was trapped wide throughout. His 6th placing in the Perak Derby prior wasn’t bad considering the early pace when beaten 2.5 lengths behind the winner. The 8yo has a good record over the mile and can return to winning form. ROYAL EXPLORER, placed 3rd in the G1 Piala Emas last year, ran 2nd in that same race won by Mr Hopkins on January 26. With a record of 2 wins from 3 starts at the Ipoh mile, ROYAL EXPLORER appears a major player for jockey Oscar Chavez.

 HONGCHEN

HONGCHEN appeared out of his depth in the group races and his return back to this grade should be a positive, especially with his best record over the 1600m trip. SECRET WIN competed in the Singapore group staying events last year is one to watch fourth up this preparation as he nears peak fitness.

 . MR NEVERMIND

Sunday’s Enrich Stakes A event features the return of talented gelding MR NEVERMIND, who hasn’t raced since finishing 5th in the Penang Gold Cup on December29. The 7yo has won 5 times when produced first up from a spell and his chances will be enhanced if a wet track prevails on Sunday. LAUS DEO also possesses a handy first up record (4 wins) and is one for the exotic players along with stable mate STAR GENIUS, who can prove hard to beat on best form.
