Perak Turf Club - PRTC DERBY DAY ONE

PRTC DERBY DAY ONE

Day one of the 2019 January Derby Meeting will take place on Saturday with another challenging eight race programme in store for punters commencing at 1.45pm. Racing will be simulcast from Macau (6 races, 1st@ 2.00pm) and Australia (15 races, 1st@ 12.08pm).

EARLY SCRATCHINGS:

R4 NO 5 AMI ELEVEN

R6 NO 9 SUPER GOOD

R7 NO 4 SACRED SURFER

 RA FORCE

RA FORCE should be rewarded for consistency when he steps out in the 1400m Track Herald Handicap (Race 2). The 4yo won twice last year and will be on the 6 day back up following his narrow defeat behind Nova Ranger in Penang. He draws well on pole position. Q NINE MAGIC ran 4th in that same race and has been coming from wide draws his past couple of starts. The 8yo grey is better drawn and apprentice J Daniel has ridden the horse to victory previously. BERCHAM returned to form with a fast finishing 2nd in Penang two weeks ago and his best form is over the 1400m trip.

 Q NINE MAGIC

LEON has finished runner up to a couple of Group winners (Truson, Littlebitofjoy) in recent starts and will be a major threat if anywhere near his top form. BRAHMS AND LISZT is on the downgrade and has 4 wins in Class 4 company while LUCK SUCCESS, a former Class 3 performer can return to form on the home track. OPTIMUS, which won at the track and distance in June last year, is a genuine light weight chance with inform apprentice, CK Khaw in the saddle.

Another CK Khaw mount looks hard to beat later in the day when WHITE CHIN steps out in the 1000m Auspicious Start Handicap (Race 7). The 5yo won twice in Europe prior to an unsuccessful stint in Singapore (4 unplaced starts) and has posted two placings for the Frank Maynard camp.

 CROWN STAR

CROWN STAR is a proven Class 4 galloper who normally races on the speed and looks a genuine threat. There is an abundance of early pace in the race with CHAMPAGNE REIN, D’GREAT EMINENCE  and to a lesser extent MULTIBLUE EAGLE likely to roll forward when the barriers open. CHAMPAGNE REIN looked a shade disappointing when beaten for early pace and was parked outside the leader before weakening in Penang last week. The 7yo could be hard to run down if presented with an easy lead.
