WHO WILL WEAR THE 2017 CORONATION CROWN?

Two of Malaysia’s best gallopers and duel Group winners, TRUSON and VOLCANIC GENERAL are set to clash in the 2017 G1 Coronation Cup but they will be facing some progressive types who are currently racing in peak form and have an advantage in the weights.

TRUSON will be attempting to defend his Coronation Cup title, his first Group One win last year and enters the feature with some good lead up performances including an 1800m victory in KL last month. The 6yo has always lacked a bit of early pace but his closing speed has been a customary pattern which has seen the Al Maher gelding approaching RM900,000 in prizemoney.

 VOLCANIC GENERAL

Former Australian galloper, VOLCANIC GENERAL has not started since his unplaced effort in the G1 Piala Emas where he failed to stay the 2000m journey but his record in Malaysia is outstanding with 2 wins and 2 seconds from 5 starts, all in Group One company this year. The 6yo has been well prepared with several trials in KL and has the class to win.

TILSWORTH FREDDIE is racing in career best form winning his last 4 in succession, all on soft tracks, and could prove hard to beat despite his sudden rise in the grades. The 7yo has been one of the most improved gallopers in the country this year and should prove competitive in what will be his biggest test so far.

STREET TEASE is also racing in peak form and she put herself on notice with a dominant victory over 1400m in Penang last start. The 7yo mare has been a model of consistency in recent months and looks a genuine light weight chance. STAR QUALITY has finished runner up on four occasions in Group One company and placed 4th this race last year. The 7yo has been dealt a blow with an outside barrier draw but is proven at this level.

TRUSON defeats VALUE OF JUSTICE in KL October 22

JUSTICE WORLD, one of two runners for the Lucky Stable was 2nd in the race last year and has been freshened up since his last start placing here over 1400m. VALUE OF JUSTICE only managed to qualify for the race following his narrow defeat behind TRUSON in KL and receives a big pull in the weights compared to their last meeting. The 5yo is a progressive type and a definite trifecta chance.

 SEA WORLD

Chances can also be given to Piala Emas placegetter SEA WORLD, who finished unplaced in the cup last year but has been racing in solid form since. ASTRO FAME, if a wet track prevails, will come into calculations. REMEMBER ME accrued enough points to slot into the race after finishing 2nd in KL last week and finished 3rd to TRUSON two starts back.
