Perak Turf Club - PERAK DERBY DATE CHANGE FROM NEXT YEAR

PERAK DERBY DATE CHANGE FROM NEXT YEAR

Following a meeting with the Association of West Malaysian Racehorse Trainers (AWMRT), the Committee of Perak Turf Club have embarked on the decision of moving the 2400m Group One Perak Derby forward next year to Sunday 14 January 2018.

The Derby was originally staged in April but has been brought forward to to take place two weeks after Penang's premier staying feature, the 2000m Governors Gold Cup.

The 2018 Derby will be preceded by the 1600m G1 Perak Coronation Cup (26 Nov 2017) and the 2000m G1 Penang Governors Gold Cup (31 Dec 2017) enabling a more convenient training platform for those genuine stayers being prepared for the 2400m Perak Derby in 2018.

Unfortunately, the number of starters and the standard of the Derby has declined in recent years and so the Perak Turf Club have taken the initiative of moving the Derby date forward in order to maximise the options for the owners of potential stayers. It will also improve the quality of runners and hopefully will increase the number of participants for the longest race staged on the Malaysian turf calendar.
