Perak Turf Club - CHARLES LECK WITH TWO PRONGED ATTACK IN HEAT ONE

CHARLES LECK WITH TWO PRONGED ATTACK IN HEAT ONE

Heat One of the 2017 Malaysia 3YO Championship will be contested at PRTC this Sunday and Selangor trainer, Charles Leck will enter the RM100,000 feature with a two pronged attack in the form of PANDA BOMB and newcomer D’GREAT EFFORT.

On exposed local form, PANDA BOMB is the likely favourite with 2 wins from 4 starts, including a Class 4 victory at KL last outing. It is the first time the horse will race outside his home track but he should still prove hard to beat.

The interesting runner is D’GREAT EFFORT, which has won 3 from 9 in Australia. The horse raced well as a 2yo recording victories in its first two race starts before finishing unplaced in the 2016 G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, one of the premier 2yo races on the Australian turf calendar. As a 3yo, D’GREAT EFFORT scored once in a lowly class race in country Victoria before he trained off last preparation. He is one to watch first up since October.

CIZEN should improve on recent runs considering he won two in succession earlier this year, including a Class 4 victory on January 21. SYMBOLIC GESTURE raced well first up last Sunday finishing a close in the 1400m Initiation while stable mate, MY GOODNESS is resuming from a spell and had solid form when last in work.

PORSENCE has placed twice from six starts and looked quite sharp in winning a trial on Tuesday morning.

The 1200m Conflair Stakes sees the return of promising performer, AL VALORE who will produced third up this preparation. The 5yo was outclassed in the G1 Selangor Gold Cup last start but his previous 7 starts in Malaysia yielded 3 wins, including a Class 3 victory in Penang two starts back. He should perform better on his home track.

 AL VALORE

Likely leader, HARRYS PAL might prove hard to run down as he continues to race in top form. His last win was at Ipoh in December over 1000m and he is drawn to lead from pole position. Three time Group One place getter, STAR QUALITY is perhaps racing a fraction below his best form but should strip much fitter following two starts this time in.

REAL MEAN for Richard Lines is resuming and has a good record when first up from a spell while MIA is a fast beginner but looked a shade disappointing when weakening over 1200m in KL last start. RUSSELL THE CROWE is currently racing in career best form as he searches for a winning hat trick. The 6yo could provide the minor upset despite stepping up in grade on Sunday.

BEST BETS FROM THE MEDIA PUBLICATIONS:

SATURDAY 20 MAY

TURF GUIDE: R2 NO1 CUTTING TORCH – The 5yo is working his way back to better form with 2 placings from his past 3 starts and started favourite in KL over 1400m when beaten into 2nd place. Drops back to 1200m and looks better suited despite carrying top weight of 59kg.

RACING GUIDE: R5 NO1 SAM THE MAN – Should appreciate dropping back to Class 4 company following his unplaced effort last start. Has early pace and should be prominent for a long way down the straight course with Jackson Low aboard.

PUNTERS WAY: R5 NO8 WINGED FOOT – Broke his Maiden tag in KL a fortnight ago when resuming and should mature into a handy type. With the class rise he gets in on the minimum weight and should start at handy odds.

SUNDAY 21 MAY

TURF GUIDE: R2 NO6 SERPICO – Yet to win in 11 local starts but has been threatening for some time. Had every chance last Sunday over 1600m but gets his chance despite not winning for just over 2 years.

RACING GUIDE & PUNTERS WAY: R6 NO2 PANDA BOMB – With 2 wins from 4 starts, the Australian bred performer looks hard to beat back racing against his own age group.
